Through Grace Clinic in Titanyen, Haiti, Healing Haiti is already at work combating Haiti’s maternal mortality rate, which remains the highest of any country in the western hemisphere. At Grace Clinic, Healing Haiti offers a Maternal Health program which provides comprehensive maternal care to pregnant women (which includes) identifying high risk situations so women can receive appropriate life-saving care.
Healing Haiti’s staff of Haitian doctors and nurses utilize Ultrasound–a diagnostic tool used to provide accurate pregnancy dating–to determine the growth and development of babies and provide a high risk evaluation. About 70% of mothers in Haiti give birth at home without a skilled birth attendant or access to emergency obstetric care. Ultrasound care is vital for mothers to determine whether their pregnancy is high risk, so they can deliver in a clinic or in the hospital. Healing Haiti is looking to expand its Maternal Health Care program to a second location at Hope Clinic in Cite Soleil. Cite Soleil is regarded as the poorest and most violent place in the Western Hemisphere. We are seeking $7,000 for an ultrasound machine to use in this community, where access to health care would otherwise not be available.
