There will be mini stores opened in both the Prior Lake High School and Bridges Alternative Learning Center. The objective of the store is to break down barriers by providing students with school supplies, hygiene items, clothing, coats, food and other basic needs so they can concentrate on learning.
We have heard from numerous district staff that if students do
not have basic needs met, it leads to lack of engagement or even attendance in school. We have seen a significant amount of students struggle on a daily basis with access to proper nutrition, hygiene, clothing, or even school supplies necessary for success. Kids coming to school hungry every Monday morning. This can completely derail the future and potential of students who deserve access to basic needs. This store is going to provide all of these things every day for free. Located right inside the high school, any student struggling with tangible needs can benefit from this store.
When students have all of their basic needs met, their education engagement and capacity can increase. This allows teachers to reach out and reengage these students.
