Provide a bed for a kid recently out of homelessness for $300! Each week, with the assistance of volunteers, My Very Own Bed delivers beds and dream kits (new sheets, blanket, pillow, mattress pad, stuffed animal, and books) to children who would otherwise be sleeping on the floor or an air mattress or sharing a bed with a parent or sibling. My Very Own Bed learns about these children through their network of referral partners – non profit organizations who are supporting the families in other ways (supportive housing, mental health, domestic violence services, education) and identify a need for a bed or beds for children in the home. At My Very Own Bed, we deliver on a promise to give children their very own bed—a place to sleep, dream, and recharge. By providing new beds and Dream Kits, we’re giving children a space of their own while supporting productive sleep to help them learn and grow. The cost for front-door delivery of each bed and dream kit to a child at $300. We typically pay $200 for mattress, box spring, and metal frame and then pack a dream-kit that we estimate at $80 each and add front door delivery costs ($20) for purchasing, maintaining, and fueling our van.
